Teacher and Educator Open House: Digging into Winslow Homer

All teachers pre-K to high school, and homeschoolers, are invited.

Come explore Winslow Homer and ways to dynamically bring this iconic Maine artist’s work into your classroom! Discover ways to infuse lessons with Maine’s rich artistic history through the lens of Winslow Homer’s artwork, and through explorations of contemporary artists’ depictions of the Maine landscape. Enjoy a talk by renowned Winslow Homer Scholar and Bowdoin College Museum of Art Co-Director Frank Goodyear and activity demonstrations in the galleries led by museum educators and docents.

Wednesday, January 16, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Complimentary refreshments and classroom resources will be shared with attendees.

About Frank Goodyear:
Frank Goodyear is the co-director of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art in Brunswick, Maine. A graduate of Princeton University (A.B.) and the University of Texas at Austin (M.A., Ph.D.), Goodyear conducts research in the history of photography and American art history. He is the author of numerous scholarly essays and books, including most recently American Cool (2014) and Winslow Homer and the Camera: Photography and the Art of Painting (2018). Goodyear was previously a curator of photographs at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery.

The PMA is located at Seven Congress Square in Portland, at the intersection of High, Congress, and Free streets.

Directions from north or south of Portland

Take I-295 to exit 6A (Forest Avenue south). Merge onto Forest Avenue and continue to Congress Street. Turn right on Congress Street. The PMA will be on your left.
