Ryan Adams
January 29, 2021

Ryan Adams is an artist, muralist, and sign painter born and raised in Portland, Maine, where he currently lives with his artist and designer wife and their two daughters. His background in graffiti art led him to create large-scale murals as well as hand-lettered signage.
Adams is best known for his signature ‘gem’ style that deconstructs the forms of letters into geometric patterns with shadows and highlights. Adams achieves a three-dimensional nature to his words by employing bold, geometric forms and vibrant colors that pulsate off the flat surface. His chosen statements can be literal or figurative, and often bring attention to a social or cultural issue. His mural work is driven by the desire to bring representation to often-overlooked members of the community and to make the arts more accessible to everyone.
The print We Gonna Be Alright is a digital piece created during the first two weeks of quarantine, when every day was clouded with an uncertainty that permeated throughout every facet of life. Inspired by a Kendrick Lamar song, he repeated the mantra of ‘We Gonna Be Alright’ in his head in order to remain calm and focused throughout those initial days.
