PMA Family Day: Making Light into Art

PMA Family Day: Making Light into Art

Get your family excited for October's Isamu Noguchi exhibition, as well as the 4th Annual Portland Lantern Walk, with this special Family Day that helps kids experience the joy of creativity and teaches them how to make wonderous lanterns!

That's right—for the third straight year, the PMA collaborates with the Friends of Deering Oaks and the Portland Lantern Walk for a special lantern-making Family Day, and this year, we've even got a twist: kids and adults can draw inspiration from Isamu Noguchi's renowned Akari lanterns, which are on display in the PMA Store in advance of the October 5 opening of Beyond the Pedestal: Isamu Noguchi and the Borders of Sculpture.

After you check out Noguchi's light sculptures, join local artist Christina Bechstein and learn how to create your very own lantern, which you can display in your room and bring to the Friends of Deering Oaks’ 4th Annual Portland Lantern Walk, October 21 at 5:30 p.m. in Deering Oaks Park.

While you're at the PMA, don't forget to bring the kids to the Workshop, the PMA Café, and Painter and Poet: the Art of Ashley Bryan!

Family Programming is made possible in part by the Peggy L. Osher Education Endowment at the Portland Museum of Art.
