The Road To Reopening

Like much of the world, when we closed our doors in March, we did so to protect our visitors, members, and staff, support our frontline service providers, and do our part to help flatten the curve. Immediately following that difficult decision, our minds quickly went to work on how we could continue to bring the PMA’s mission to you, your friends and family, and your community through this unprecedented time. In the months since, we’ve reached more than 500,000 people across the world with “PMA at Home,” and it’s been incredible to see the response throughout our audiences, no matter where they call home.

At the same time, our hearts have not stopped hoping for the day we can welcome visitors back into our galleries. We know that “normal” is a long way out still, and whatever our world looks like after COVID-19 is bound to be quite different than before. And yet, we know that art will remain, creativity will continue, and that our spirits must be kept high in order to build this new normal together. We firmly believe that nothing can replace the power of experiencing a work of art in person, and so we have begun in earnest to prepare to reopen safely, deliberately, and with an abundance of care.

As the State of Maine has released its initial plans to reopen our region, we wanted to let you know that we will be sharing our plans for a phased reopening as well. There are many things to consider, and the first phase—before any visitors come through our doors—is ensuring we are doing everything we can to maximize the safety and well-being of you, our staff, and anyone who will be on our campus.

To that end, we want your input. What steps can we take to put you at ease, maximize your comfort, and keep you safe? What more can we do online until you are able and ready to visit? Please take a moment to fill out the brief survey below and share your thoughts.

Just as we have all worked together to contain this pandemic, we need to continue to work hand-in-hand as we rebuild our communities, routines, and lives. Your feedback has always made the PMA a welcome respite for many, and we look forward continuing that onsite again soon.

Be well, and stay connected.
