My most memorable moment during the project took place at the PMA in an early session with the advisory partners…The group gathered demonstrated a turning point for the PMA in equity and inclusion.

“I was struck by the variety of community partners that the PMA had brought together to share ideas and life experience regarding all that should be considered in the undertaking of re-imagining the American Art collection at the museum,” shares Marcia Minter, co-founder and Executive Director of Indigo Arts Alliance. “The project strengthened my relationship with the curators and directors of the museum resulting in deeper respect and trust as they strive toward living up to the mantra Art for All.”

Indigo Arts Alliance is a Black-led artist residency program in Portland, Maine that provides Black and Brown artists from around the world a supportive environment for creation. For her, Passages embodies the deep commitment to social and cultural activism that is at the heart of Indigo, as well as the perspective she brings—as a seasoned creative professional and dedicated arts advocate—to numerous boards and organizations she contributes to, including several that the PMA.
