Leave A Legacy: The Margaret Jane Mussey Sweat Society

"Sometimes a small push will give motion to a big body."
- Margaret Jane Mussey Sweat

The Margaret Jane Mussey Sweat Society (MJMSS) was formed to honor the legacy of one of the PMA’s most generous benefactors who, in 1908, bequeathed the McLellan House and necessary funds to build the L. D. M. Sweat Memorial Galleries in memory of her late husband. The PMA would not be what it is today without the remarkable vision of people such as Margaret Jane Mussey Sweat.

The future of the PMA will be shaped by benefactors who choose to honor the museum with gifts from their estates.

A legacy gift is a testament to your confidence in the future of the museum. Giving at a time when all personal needs have been satisfied is a way to leave a lasting connection with an institution you are passionate about, to enable endless opportunities for engaging with art, and to inspire patrons for generations to come. One of the most meaningful benefits you will find in becoming part of the MJMSS is the fellowship you will share with like-minded benefactors, who know their gifts will ensure the preservation and enduring value of the PMA.

Legacy gifts strengthen the museum’s endowment, provide essential annual income, and support its growing collection and interactive educational programs. By including the PMA in your long-term plans, you can achieve the goals that are important to you—to benefit yourself and your family, as well as the institution that you value and believe in.

Virtually anything of value may comprise your estate gift, including gifts of art, cash, securities, or real estate. You can even recommend that the residuum of a donor-advised fund or the dissolution of a family foundation be designated to the museum.
