Noontime Talk | Poetry in Dialogue: Recover Community, Collaborate

  • Portland Museum of Art 7 Congress Square Portland, ME, 04101 United States (map)

Free to members or with admission

In this Noontime Talk, t love smith from Trans Poetics Archive will discuss how creative collaboration is the connection that helps thread together a resilient community. When we create together, we build new connections in the world and we also build new connections in our individual brains leading to new perceptions.

Our minds open, as do our hearts through the practice of artistic expression, be it through paint, rhythm or rhyme. This talk is part of our Poetry in Dialogue series which invites visitors to experience the Grace Hartigan: Gift of Attention exhibition through fresh voices, echoing the power of poetic influences that shape artists’ practice.

Since 2004, t love smith has been active in community building projects, organizations, boards, campaigns, curating events and fundraising for Maine artists and poets. The Trans Poetics Archive originated as their graduate independent research project in USM’s Stonecoast MFA program. The project has included the publication of Maine's First Transgender Poetry Anthology and monthly Trans Poetics curated events to amplify trans voices in Maine.

Join us every Friday at noon for a 30-minute gallery talk with curators, artists, and community voices exploring art, the PMA Collection, and creative practice.
