The Portland Museum of Art is pleased to host Held, a Portland-based collective that creates thoughtfully designed gatherings encouraging women to slow down, pay attention, and find meaning in community. Their programs bring together creativity, conversation, and care, offering participants new ways of experiencing the world and one another.

Together with PMA, Held will present Seeing, Sensing, and Saying: a tour of our new Grace Hartigan: The Gift of Attention exhibition. Guided by our museum educators, we’ll look closely at Hartigan’s bold, expressive works and explore the poetry that shaped her vision.

The evening will include:

Writing, imagination, listening, and response through short stories, poetic lines, or group exercises.

Time to wander the galleries independently with prompts in hand.

A concluding gathering in the PMA café, with light refreshments, conversation, and optional sharing of work created during the program.

Participants will also receive a mini-journal and mechanical pencil to capture reflections and sketches throughout the evening. This event marks the beginning of a multi-season collaboration between PMA and Held, with a Winter ’26 program centered on mindfulness already in development.

This event is designed for women and those who identify as women, in line with Held’s mission to create supportive, women-focused spaces.
