Portland artist Aaron T. Stephan is known for his take-offs from, and take-downs of, characteristic or "signature" gestures by artists throughout the American modern and contemporary canon. In his first solo exhibition at the Portland Museum of Art, part of our Circa series of exhibitions featuring contemporary artists, Stephan will present a suite of sculptural installation and recent prints that showcases his witty dialogue with the formalities of the art museum by making mischief with pedestals and architecture, and with the conventions of mass reproduction.

Circa is a series of exhibitions featuring the work of living artists from Maine and beyond.
