Jesseca Kelsey, The spoiled cocoon

This piece features the effect a traumatic event has on the human heart and mind. After the calm of perfect skin is interrupted by a burst of vulnerability and anger, one may never be able to completely soothe the damage of what is lost; nevertheless, the spoiled cocoon still has the potential to sprout wings. The blue crocheted mass resembling both the bloody innards of a human and the egg or chrysalis of an insect, represents how healing is not only a self-preservation measure, but also a vital stage of development.

Materials: Red, maroon, light blue and azure blue acrylic yarn, polyester filling
