Timed Exhibition Tickets

  • Timed-entry tickets are required for all visitors wishing to view Winslow Homer: Painter, Etcher at the Portland Museum of Art.
  • Access to the exhibition requires museum admission; standalone exhibition tickets are not available.
  • General admission to the museum does not require a timed ticket. Timed entry is only required for the exhibition.
  • To purchase admission to the PMA without the special exhibition, click here.
  • We strongly recommend reserving in advance, as time slots may sell out.
  • Tickets are available to book up to 6 weeks ahead.

Tickets are currently available only to PMA Members.

Non-member ticket sales begin May 26, 2026. Non-members can purchase tickets up to 6 weeks in advance from their visit. 

Tickets for the exhibition are released on a rolling basis throughout the run of the show. New dates and times are added regularly, so please check back if your preferred date is not yet available.

Members can book tickets through July 15, 2026.  This booking window automatically extends each day, allowing members to reserve tickets up to eight weeks in advance.

  • Visitors may enter the exhibition beginning at their reserved entry time.
  • Early entry is not permitted.
  • Late arrivals may enter at any time after their scheduled entry, pending museum hours.
  • There is no time limit once inside the exhibition.
  • Visitors may leave and re-enter the exhibition on the same day with their exhibition ticket stub.
  • A limited number of walk-in tickets will be available each half-hour, subject to capacity.

Reciprocal Partners

Reciprocal programs include complimentary admission to PMA galleries. Exhibition access requires an additional $10 exhibition ticket. More free admission opportunities.

Educators

Educators receive free museum admission and may purchase exhibition access for $10.

Veterans and Active Military

  • Veterans receive complimentary admission for up to two adults.
  • Active-duty military families receive complimentary admission for up to four adults during the Blue Star Museums program period through September 7.
  • Timed tickets are required for all military admissions.

  • Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Friday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Closure Dates to Note

  • Saturday, July 4, 2026: The PMA will close at 3:00 p.m. in observance of Independence Day.
  • Monday, September 7, 2026: The PMA will be closed to the public in observance of Labor Day.

Ticket Policies

  • Timed tickets are non-transferable.
  • Tickets are generally non-refundable.
  • Same-day time exchanges may be possible based on availability.

Visitors who have already purchased general admission may add exhibition access onsite only, subject to ticket availability.

  • The final timed entry each day will occur 1 hour before museum closing.
  • Exhibition entry may close approximately 15 to 20 minutes before the museum closes.
  • Walk-in timed tickets are limited and subject to availability.
  • Timed tickets may be purchased online, over the phone, or onsite.

Free Admission Programs

  • General museum admission remains free during these programs.
  • There is a $10 timed entry fee during Free Friday.
  • Special exhibition fee is waived during Third Thursday.
  • Timed exhibition tickets are still required for both programs.

Library passes include complimentary admission to both the museum and exhibition. Timed tickets are not required for library pass holders.

Students from participating institutions including MECA+D, USM, UNE, and SMCC receive complimentary admission to the exhibition with valid student ID. Timed tickets are still required.
