A Tree is a Home to All

April 27, 2023

If I was a tree, what would I be? If I was a tree who might live in me, beside me, beneath me? If I was a tree, what might I see?

These were the guiding questions for our Family Day poetry activity with Mihku Paul on Saturday, April 22, 2023. Below is the resulting renga poem created by you!

I love big trees!
They have leaves.

If I were a tree, I would see a cloud.
I would be a sugar maple.
I would be an apple tree.
I would see lots of animals and birds would live in the branches.
I would see animals and green grass.

If I were a tree, I would be a big green weeping willow.
I might see many birds!
I would be a Live Oak.
Squirrels, insects, birds, chipmunks live with me!

They go in the sky.
Earth! Dirt! Worm! Sunshine! Squirrel!
Green grass and trees, with insects and bees!

Giver of Birth
Lover of knowledge.
Home to birds.

See a leaf. I love trees.
Giver of life, provider of home, source of comfort, keeper of wisdom.
I’ll always seek the Mother Tree.

Oh, lovely trees how you be.
I feel at home in nature.
If I was a tree I would see people, plants, and building.

Home, let this good green place be a home for all.
May we live in the company of trees always.
