Coming to PMA Films in April: “L.A. in Film: Wildfire Relief Series”

From the dream factories of Hollywood studios to the iconic Union Station and beyond, the sights of Los Angeles are inseparable from their uses (and re-uses) across film history. This special film series captures a wide range of representations of Los Angeles in the movies, moving from Billy Wilder’s shadowy, noir-inflected Sunset Boulevard to William Friedkin’s neon-inflected To Live and Die in L.A. to Thom Anderson’s iconic video essay Los Angeles Plays Itself. The series will conclude with multiple screenings of a new 4K restoration of Charles Burnett’s landmark independent film, Killer of Sheep. All proceeds from these screenings will be donated to the LA Arts Community Wildfire Relief Fund, benefiting artists and arts workers impacted by this devastating natural disaster.

SCREENING SCHEDULE:

• Mulholland Dr. (2001): Sunday, April 6 at 3 p.m.

• To Live and Die in L.A. (1985): Friday, April 18 at 6 p.m.

• Sunset Boulevard (1950): Sunday, April 20 at 3 p.m.

• Killer of Sheep (1977): Screening April 25–27 in a new 4K restoration.

• Los Angeles Plays Itself (2003): Saturday, April 26 at 3 p.m.
