Congress Square Redesign
June 3, 2021
For years, we’ve heard from our members about the challenges of crossing to the museum from Congress Square Park, and we’re thrilled to share that this year, Congress Square will be redesigned to better accommodate pedestrians and to beautify the area.

The intersection of Congress, High, and Free Streets has long been inaccessible for many—especially those with a wheelchair or stroller—and unsafe for all. The new traffic flow and crosswalks significantly improves safety for all modes of transportation and the quality of life for all people in Portland’s Arts District. On your next PMA visit, we invite you to make it a full day exploring our neighborhood, and we thank the city of Portland, Friends of Congress Square, and everyone else who made this redesign possible.
Please be aware that the construction will occur in the intersection directly in front of the museum over the course of fall 2021.
