At Good Grief, groups of children meet to understand the passing of a parent or a sibling through play. Death may come suddenly or slowly, violently or peacefully, but it leaves a pain that the child has never felt before.
Since 1987, the Center for Grieving Children has been providing a safe space, loving peer support, outreach, and education to grieving children, teens, families, and the community of Southern Maine. Tune in to the Center’s upcoming webinar “Grief and Loss – Beyond the Basics”.
88 minutes. Not rated. Directed by Katrine Philp.
WINNER — Documentary Feature Competition Grand Jury Award, 2020 SXSW Film Festival
New Jersey’s Good Grief counseling center offers a holistic approach to mourning. Filmmaker Katrine Philp presents viewers with a child’s perspective of its programs, offering an affectionate and intimate look at the lives of several children who have recently lost their parents and must navigate their grief by embracing sadness with honesty, bravery, humor, and love. The result is an enlightening film in which the students become our teachers in finding better ways of coping with loss.
