The Collections

The PMA boasts a collection containing more than 18,000 works of art. The collection is comprised of three distinct areas of focus: American, European, and Contemporary and Modern. Naturally, the collection offers particular depth in artwork that relates to the history of artistic practice in Maine and New England. Throughout the PMA’s collection and galleries, visitors can engage in the far-ranging story about art and culture in the United States, Europe, and the creative legacy of the region.

Winslow Homer Studio

Purchased by the PMA in 2006, the Winslow Homer Studio is one of the most significant locations in the history of American art. Located along the rugged coast of Prout's Neck, Maine, the Studio is where great American artist Winslow Homer (1836-1910) lived and painted many of his masterpieces from 1883 until his death. Now, fully renovated and restored, the Studio is open for guided tours through the PMA.
