PMA Visitor and Member Experience Ambassador, Part-time

Our Visitor and Member Experience Ambassadors are the first contact with Museum patrons and play a vital role in creating a welcoming, accessible, and authentic PMA. A successful candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced, front-facing environment with the public, as they perform a variety of duties including selling general admission, film and lecture tickets, PMA Store product, tickets for the Winslow Homer Studio, and PMA memberships.

Successful candidates must be enthusiastic team players with exceptional customer service, computer, and organizational skills. Qualified candidates possess dependability, an engaging personality, an interest in the arts, and the ability to work efficiently. Willingness to support the PMA goal to advance a culture of inclusivity and diversity.

This is a part-time position with a variable flexible schedule which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays with openings and special events as assigned. Must be able to communicate large amounts of information in English and sit/stand for extended periods as scheduled. Ability to move stanchions, wheelchairs, and strollers required with ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Training Required:
Must attend three training sessions; complete 8 hours of shadow training (two 4-hour shifts at the front desk with experienced Ambassadors); and attend one highlights tour and a tour of the Winslow Homer Studio.

Education and Experience: 
High School diploma or equivalent with one to three years of customer service and/or retail experience.
Qualifications:

  • Superior interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff, volunteers, and visitors; to exercise tact and diplomacy at all times; and to represent the museum in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and/or customers.
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with coworkers and a variety of individuals contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to operate computers, tablets, phone system, and assigned software.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Ability to attend department meetings and trainings as required.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
Working Conditions: 
  • The majority of work is performed in a museum setting, at the front desk, in the PMA Store, or in a normal office environment not subject to extremes of noise, temperature, odor, etc. Operates computer, mobile technology, switchboard, scanner, printer, POS system, copier, credit card and gift card machine, calculator, and other office equipment. Work involves extended standing, sitting, computer use, and small muscle tasks. May also be frequently required to stand, walk, bend, and crouch for extended periods and to lift and move boxes and product. Requires weekend and evening hours.
Terms: 
The PMA Ambassador position is part time, temporary, hourly, non-exempt, employment-at-will position.
