Maine’s presence in the North Atlantic is changing; the state is poised to become the eastern gateway to the Arctic. Today, Maine is leading efforts to combat climate change, strengthen trade relationships, and exchange cutting-edge research to diversify and expand Maine’s economy as well as the PMA’s efforts to create an international context for art of this region for the very first time. This two-part panel presents information about Maine’s role in the North across various sectors as well as new opportunities for artistic exchange. PMA Associate Curator of Contemporary Art Jaime DeSimone leads a discussion with international curators about the upcoming North Atlantic Triennial. This program promises to shed light on Maine’s growing economic, artistic, and cultural interconnectivity with the nations of the North Atlantic.

In this 1934 adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure novel, young Jim Hawkins (Jackie Cooper) finds a treasure map and sets sail for a tropical island to find the riches--aboard a ship captained by pirate Long John Silver (Wallace Beery), who is eager to doublecross the boy and steal the buried treasure. Presented in conjunction with N. C. Wyeth: New Perspectives - Wyeth created illustrations for a popular 1911 edition of the already-classic Stevenson novel. Free screening, followed by curator talk

Winner of the Golden Bear at Berlinale, the latest from Nadav Lapid (The Kindergarten Teacher) features a dynamic lead performance from newcomer Tom Mercier, whose feral intensity practically bursts out of the frame. Mercier plays Yoav, a disaffected young Israeli who flees Tel Aviv for Paris to start a new life. Desperate to erase his origins, Yoav sees becoming French as his only hope for salvation.
