Members make everything we do at the PMA possible, and Member Appreciation Weekends is their chance to enjoy special offers and events at the PMA. If you're not a member, you can still join and take part; we're thankful for all of you.

From Friday, October 11 through Saturday October 12, members enjoy the following extra benefits:

We're honored to welcome David Lubin, Charlotte C. Weber Professor of Art at Wake Forest University, as our visiting scholar, it’s a weekend you won’t want to miss.

Noon: Noontime Talk: N.C. Wyeth's Legacy with David Lubin, Charlotte C. Weber Professor of Art at Wake Forest University 

5 p.m.to 8 p.m.: Hands-on art making activity based on N. C. Wyeth: New Perspectives.
Families are invited to join us to make books that share their Maine story through drawing, writing, and collaging. Meet in the Selma Wolf Black Great Hall. 

 

Saturday, October 12

9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: Members Coffee and Culture

10 a.m.to 3 p.m.: Hands-on art making activity based on N. C. Wyeth: New Perspectives.
Families are invited to join us to make books that share their Maine story through drawing, writing, and collaging. Meet in the Selma Wolf Black Great Hall.

1 p.m. to 2 p.m.: Art as Social Commentary with Mary Collins
Many artist's share their thoughts and feelings about cultural moments through their works. PMA Docent Mary Collins leads members on a special tour of works that highlight these connections between art and society.

10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: N. C. Wyeth and the Power of Color with Tim Wallace
The new PMA exhibition, NC Wyeth: New Perspectives provides the opportunity to explore the breadth of Wyeth’s work from one perspective: his bold and muscular use of color.  How did Wyeth employ color, how was it distinctive, and how did it infuse his work with dramatic tension?  Tim Wallace discusses these points, as well as relevant aspects of the artist’s life, together in a one hour tour of the exhibition.

2 p.m. to 3 p.m.: Journey in Sculpture: From Solid Grounding to Tip-toes with Michael Smith
Sculpture is a broad artform with works ranging from solid traditional pieces representing people in various poses to more abstract works that seem to have a life of their own. Micheal Smith helps members investigate this form with his insights on a wide range of sculptural styles.
