SUMMARY:PMA Films: Aanikoobijigan [ancestor / great-grandparent / great-grandchild] (Free Screening)
DESCRIPTION:Directed by Adam Khalil and Zack Khalil. 80 minutes. Not Rated. In English and Anishinaabemowin with English subtitles. \n\n\n\nAanikoobijigan [ancestor / great-grandparent / great-grandchild] documents the emotional and vital work of MACPRA (Michigan Anishinaabek Cultural Preservation and Repatriation Alliance). This alliance\, made up of repatriation specialists representing all Michigan tribes\, fights to bring their Ancestors and funerary objects home from settler colonial institutions like museums\, libraries\, and archives. \n\n\n\nAdam and Zack Khalil’s monumental and formally daring film follows the pressing struggle to rebury Indigenous human remains that have been held in sterile storage\, laying bare the history of Indigenous collections and the battle to recognize and enforce the laws intended to facilitate their repatriation to the communities they were originally stolen from. Using an essayistic approach alongside vérité portraits\, the film celebrates the courageous individuals who carry out this hard and emotionally draining labor of return. — Sundance Film Festival

SUMMARY:The Art of Intaglio Printmaking: Live Demonstrations
DESCRIPTION:Discover the printmaking process behind the exhibition Winslow Homer: Painter\, Etcher. Printmaker Winslow Trainum demonstrates the art of intaglio printmaking\, inking an etched copper plate\, wiping it by hand\, and running it through a traditional press to reveal an image transferred from plate to paper. \n\n\n\nWorking from his studio at Prouts Neck\, Maine\, Homer created a remarkable series of etchings that showcased both technical skill and his enduring fascination with the sea. This live demonstration brings that process to life\, offering a rare opportunity to see how an etched image emerges from a copper plate. A limited number of prints will be available as take-home souvenirs. \n\n\n\nAbout Winslow Trainum Winslow Trainum (Winslow Loves You!) is a community-based printmaker born and raised in Charlottesville\, Virginia\, while currently working out of Portland\, Maine. Throughout his work\, Winslow uses experimental printmaking techniques with an emphasis on etching and silkscreen to provide proof of magic in printmaking and tell stories of unreal dimensions. In his senior year at Maine College of Art & Design\, Winslow worked alongside Ramey Mize\, curator of Winslow Homer: Painter\, Etcher as a curatorial intern\, using his expertise in etching to consult and collaborate on the exhibition.

SUMMARY:Champlain Film Festival: Afrotōpia (with virtual filmmaker discussion)
DESCRIPTION:Directed by David Mboussou. 128 minutes (followed by discussion). Not Rated. In French with English subtitles. \nEzekiel\, a 25-year-old aspiring filmmaker\, lives in the heart of the Congo Basin under the authority of his father\, Maurice\, a powerful businessman who opposes his artistic ambitions. When Ezekiel is forced to join the family logging business\, he discovers that Maurice plans to exploit a sacred forest\, the last refuge of an indigenous community. As he uncovers a buried colonial-era family secret\, Ezekiel must choose between loyalty\, personal freedom\, and the fate of his people. Blending tradition and modernity to portray contemporary\, cross-cultural Africa\, Franco-Gabonese filmmaker David Mboussou’s “ecological manifesto” embraces the healing of historical wounds and explores the stigmatization of African cultures\, the sacred link between people\, nature\, and spirit\, and the resilience that shapes our future.
