February School Vacation Week Family Activities

February School Vacation Week Family Activities

This February school vacation week, the PMA is here to help you out with your winter doldrums with special open hours and family programming that includes artmaking activities for kids and adults.

We start by breaking our winter hours to open our doors on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 18 and 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., specifically for families looking to fill the week with engaging experiences for their kids.

Then from Wednesday, Feb. 20 through Saturday, Feb. 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., we host special drop-in family activities with Nicole Manganelli, who will help you and your family make your very own zines together.

Finally, PMA Films offers the Academy Award-nominated animated fable Mirai on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23 and 24, which is FREE for ages 16 and under.

And remember—everyone ages 21 and under always get free admission at the PMA, thanks to the generosity of Susie Konkel.

ABOUT THE ZINE-MAKING FAMILY ACTIVITIES

We're thrilled to share that teaching artist Nicole Manganelli joins us for all-ages art making and explorations from February 20-23. Inspired by Relational Undercurrents: Contemporary Art from the Caribbean Archipelago, Nicole will guide you in making "zines" (homemade magazines) about where you are from. These can include images, words, colors, landscapes—anything that you feel represents you and the many different parts of your identity. Expressing ourselves and sharing our identities is a wonderful way of building connections with one another and helping us to understand each other, even though our individual experiences are so unique.

Nicole is an activist and organizer who has facilitated hundreds of workshops and trainings in a variety of non-profits since 2001 on issues ranging from anti-bias education to hate violence prevention to youth work to community-building. She is also a printmaker and commissioned designer who has been making social justice-themed letterpress prints and design projects since 2012.
