The Collection: Highlights from the Portland Museum of Art

The Collection: Highlights from the Portland Museum of Art is the first collection catalogue in the history of the PMA, boasting a wide range of work by artists such as Lois Dodd, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, Claude Monet, Louise Nevelson, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. With full-color plates of 100 highlights from the PMA collection and essays by PMA curators, this publication provides context for the museum’s history, architecture, and art—commemorating the ongoing legacy of the museum.

In addition to essays by the PMA curators, former Maine State Historian and Trustee Emeritus Earle G. Shettleworth, Jr. provides a comprehensive overview of the PMA’s 133-year history, offering invaluable insights on the PMA’s ever-changing role in Portland and Maine.

The resulting catalogue—The Collection: Highlights from the Portland Museum of Art—not only serves as a beautiful addition to any art-lover’s bookshelf and a window into the PMA collection, but as an essential reference guide for Maine’s artistic heritage and the greater narrative of American and European art history.
