Public/Sculpture: Jonathan Borofsky's Human Structures in Context

with Patterson Sims, Independent Art Curator and Consultant

Jonathan Borofsky’s sculpture Human Structures (24 Figures Connected), newly unveiled in the David E. Shaw and Family Sculpture Park, proudly asserts the importance of social connections—or, in the artist’s words, “humanity connecting together to build itself.” Hear from independent curator and always-engaging speaker Patterson Sims and artist Jonathan Borofsky on the role of public sculpture in contemporary society—how it brings us together and apart.

Patterson Sims formerly appeared at the PMA as co-curator (along with PMA Deputy Director and Robert and Elizabeth Nanovic Chief Curator Jessica May) of the 2014 exhibition Richard Estes’ Realism. Sims is Co-Chair of the Board of Independent Curators International and works with five different artist's foundations. He has worked in the visual arts since 1969, and his career as a museum professional includes positions at the Montclair Art Museum, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Seattle Art Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, where he was the first curator designated to oversee the permanent collection.
