Membership Appreciation Weekend

Membership Appreciation Weekend

Thank you for visiting during Membership Appreciation Weekend
.

From Friday, May 31, through Sunday, June 2, the PMA hosted Member Appreciation weekend with Barnet Scholar Dr. Virginia Mecklenburg, Senior Curator at Smithsonian American Art Museum. It was a weekend filled with special offers and events, including Barnet Scholars Coffee and Culture, docent-led tours and family-friendly activities, designed to further our member’s appreciation and understanding of art, and allow us the opportunity to say thank you.

On Friday, we were honored to welcome Dr. Mecklenburg for a Noontime Talk reflecting on prints by artist Will Barnet, whose legacy continues to support arts education programming biannually at the PMA through the Barnet Scholars Fund.

On Saturday morning, Dr. Mecklenburg presented a highly anticipated lecture on Norman Rockwell as part of Barnet Scholar’s Coffee and Culture. Her talk offered a history on Rockwell as one of America’s best-known illustrators, and how his work continues to have relevance today.

Through docent tours, our members were led in discovering the ways that their interpretation and understanding of paintings could beinfluenced in “Pairing Paintings” with Michael Smith during Saturday afternoon’s program. Sunday morning, we dug deep into the lives of artists, the choices they made while painting, and thought about the importance of why we still look at artistic landscapes to this day with Sue Yandell in “Landscapes Near and Far”. Later, Kristine Biegel explored a range of artistic mediums throughout the museum in “Hidden Figures”. In addition to the various educational and interactive programs held during Membership Appreciation and Barnet Scholars Weekend, PMA members enjoyed extra benefits including a double discount in the PMA Store and PMA Café, daily giveaways, and a “basket” weaving activity. A special thank you to the Black Tie Company for offering members a double discount on their café purchases.

Members make everything we do at the PMA possible, and Member Appreciation Weekends are our chance to thank you through special offers and programming.

If you’re not a member, please join today to take part in October’s appreciation weekend featuring Barnet Scholar David Lubin, Charlotte C. Weber Professor of Art at Wake Forest University.

Thank you again to the generous support of our members.

Deputy Director and Director of External Affairs
