Summer Garden Party with the Director’s Circle and Contemporaries

Mark your calendars now for the annual summer garden lawn party at the PMA. Spend a magical evening out with the PMA community in the David E. Shaw and Family Sculpture Park, strung with lights and full of live music and excellent company. The Black Tie Company is on hand to offer hors d’oeuvres and open bar, so join Director’s Circle and Contemporaries members for the largest PMA event of the summer.  

The PMA Goes to the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts

Director’s Circle members are invited to travel with the PMA to the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine. The group will depart Portland via private charter the morning of Thursday, July 25, stopping for lunch on the way and arriving in Deer Isle in the mid-afternoon. Upon arrival, our visit begins with a tour of Haystack’s picturesque coastal campus, followed by end-of-session studio walk-throughs. We’ll conclude the day with dinner and a live auction with session artists and members of the public.

The PMA Goes to NYC

Kick off the Friends of the Collection’s 2019 fundraising efforts—with a particular eye toward the museum’s purchase of David Driskell’s powerful Ghetto Wall #2—and join the PMA on a trip to New York City that includes special tours of museums, private collections, and artist studios. Judy and Leonard Lauder Director Mark Bessire, Deputy Director and Robert and Elizabeth Nanovic Chief Curator Jessica May, Deputy Director and Director of External Affairs Lizzy Jones are among the PMA representatives who will join you for this three-day excursion.

A Conversation with Associate Curator of Contemporary Art Jaime DeSimone and artist Lilian Garcia-Roig

Lilian Garcia-Roig’s large-scale, on-site painting installations overwhelm the viewer’s senses. Each individual part was painted by the artist outdoors in front of the scene, a technique often called en plein air, over the course of a day.

Come be the first to see this year’s pairings of floral arrangements and art in the PMA’s galleries, meet the floral designers and enjoy the company of fellow Director’s Circle and Contemporaries Council members.
