Staff Positions

This position offers high school students the opportunity to learn about the museum industry through the development of youth and teen programs. This seven-week fellowship program is designed to foster creative thinking, to build community, and to use the Portland Museum of Art (PMA) collection for inspiration and idea building. The Homer High School Fellow will be one of seven fellows who will collaborate on projects and programs.

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, maintains the museum’s buildings and grounds by completing janitorial tasks, event set up and special projects as assigned to ensure fulfillment of museum standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.

Under the general supervision of the Visitor Experience and PMA Store Manager, responsible for providing exceptional visitor experience with a thorough understanding of Portland Museum of Art (PMA) information while selling admission, memberships, and PMA product; promoting programs and events; and providing information and customer service support. Supports PMA goals of building audiences, developing and strengthening constituent relationships, and maximizing revenue.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Learning and Interpretation, makes the museum accessible to young people and by extension their families, through creation and implementation of programs that encourage curiosity and exploration of works of art through varied avenues. Supports the Portland Museum of Art’s (PMA’s) mission by developing and facilitating learning opportunities for youth audiences within both the museum and the community using the PMA’s collection and special exhibitions as a foundation.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Protection Services and Security Supervisors and Officers, responsible for ensuring the security and safety of personnel and visitors, the museum’s collection, and the physical plant. Performs a variety of security and security-related duties, provides information and assistance to museum visitors, and directs visitors and staff during emergency situations.
