The Portland Museum of Art (PMA) is searching for a Collections Registrar. The Portland Museum of Art is the cultural heart of Portland, Maine. The PMA boasts significant holdings of American, European, and contemporary art, as well as iconic works from Maine—highlighting the rich artistic tradition of the state and its artists. This position is responsible for care, management and use of the PMA’s collection and loaned works of art, in accordance with best practice standards, in support of the PMA’s mission.

Under the direction of the Exhibition Manager, oversees and participates in the handling, care, and maintenance of the Portland Museum of Art’s (PMA’s) collection; the safe storage, transport, and display of objects under the PMA’s care; and risk management for objects in transit and on display. Works closely and collaboratively with Curatorial, Registration, and Preparation staff, as well as other museum departments, to advance the PMA’s mission.

Under the general supervision of the Lead Preparator, the Assistant Preparator will play in integral role in a PMA Portland Museum of Art’s (PMA’s) exhibitions. This position is responsible for assisting with the safe storage, transport, and display of objects under the museum’s care, including working closely with a team of registrars, preparators, photographer and technologists to successfully capture images of the collection, manage content provided by the curatorial staff, and assist with the digitalization of the PMA’s collections. The position is for periodic, occasional work.
