Join us for a reception in the Community Studio to recognize the work of the 2010 Yourspace interns. Yourspace is a three-week summer internship for six of Portland’s most talented young artists, which provides access to the Museum’s renowned works of art, experience with professional arts educators, and intensive art-making to help prepare them for future careers. This year’s interns, nominated by art teachers at their schools are: Courtney Boothby and Heather Cron from Portland High School; Courtney McGorrill and Maddie Ostwald from Deering High School; and Summer Leppanen and Emma Raine Maasch from Casco Bay High School. Come meet these young artists and learn more about their work.
Meet the Movie Director of My Tale of Two Cities

Join Carl Kurlander, director of the film My Tale of Two Cities and showing at Movies at the Museum at 2 p.m. for a Q & A Session. Carl Kurlander wrote the screenplay for St. Elmo's Fire and was a writer/producer for Saved By the Bell. My Tale of Two Cities is also showing Sunday, August 8 at 2 p.m.
Winslow Homer Stamp Celebration

In celebration of Winslow Homer and the Poetics of Place and in collaboration with the United States Postal Service, the Museum will unveil the new stamp of the Winslow Homer painting Boys in a Pasture (1874) on its first day of issue. Representatives from the Portland Post Office will be here to postmark your stamp with a special pictorial postmark designed specifically for this event. Winslow Homer's Boys in a Pasture (1874) is the ninth stamp issued in the American Treasures series. The Museum will also showcase two first day of issue stamps from December 15, 1962 of the Winslow Homer painting Breezing Up (A Fair Wind) (1873–1876). Music courtesy of the Stretta String Duet.
Portland Museum of Art 2010 Raffle
Raffle tickets: $10 each; $50 for 6; $100 for 13
The lucky winners will be drawn at the Members' Opening Reception on Wednesday, December 15 for the exhibition Rackstraw Downes: Onsite Paintings, 1972–2008. A raffle brochure will be mailed to all members in July.
All proceeds support the Museum's exhibitions and education programs. You need not be present at the raffle drawing to win. Items will be on display on the Museum's lower ground floor until the raffle drawing. You may use the raffle tickets you receive in the mail, or purchase tickets at the Museum.
