Artist Anne Sibley O'Brien joins families to explore different ways to make pictures of people. Her workshop uses examples from her own book illustrations to show her process in addition to exercises in drawing feelings and facial features. She'll also demonstrate a variety of media and how to use shadow and light in drawing faces.
The Mistress and the Muse: Selections from the Isabelle and Scott Black Collection provides inspiration to explore portraiture, from surrealist paintings by René Magritte to Cubist works by Pablo Picasso to the colorful pastels of children and dancers by Mary Cassatt and Edgar Degas. In our Pop-Up Studio, use props and costumes and pose so someone can draw a portrait of you—or just draw a self portrait. Family-friendly gallery tours provide context. Guest artist Anne Sibley O'Brien will share her portraits and offer feedback on your artwork.
To honor Mother's Day weekend, all mothers receive a complimentary coffee or tea in the PMA Café.
