This gripping historical drama, based on the acclaimed play by Cyril Gely and directed by Volker Schlöndorff (The Tin Drum), tells of the relationship between Dietrich von Cholitz (Niels Arestrup), the German military governor of occupied Paris, and Swedish consul-general Raoul Nordling (André Dussollier). The fate of Paris hangs on the line as Allies are about to enter Paris and Hitler wants to dynamite the city the way the Allies destroyed Berlin. Only a careful act of diplomacy between these two powerful men can save it from that destruction.
