Join Peaks Island illustrator Jamie Hogan for a day of activities inspired by sketchbooks and the exhibit Masterworks on Paper: Highlights from the Portland Museum of Art. Sketchbooks have long served artists as vessels of noticing, imagining, and sharing. Learn to make your own sketchbook and then bring it into the galleries to fill with drawings. Jamie will be on hand to share pages of her own sketchbooks and support you in starting your own.

Take paper-dolls to the next level by making your own with instruction from artist Bridget McAlonan. Create simple or complex moveable paper doll puppets using new and recycled materials. Use your dolls as toys, pieces of art, or create multiple and make your own shadow puppet show – you can gather inspiration and learn how artists have drawn people over the years by checking out our exhibition Masterworks on Paper: Highlights from the Portland Museum of Art.

Kids and caregivers will be given materials, inspirational prompts, and instruction on how to transform mundane objects into art, just like Duncan Hewitt!
