July's #ThirdThursPMA toasts summer in Maine and the initial creative spark that can lead to dazzling fireworks. Our partners for the evening, The Libra Foundation, brings hundreds of interns to the state every year with its Summer in Maine program to show some of America's brightest young minds the beauty and inspiration that Maine presents. From the major exhibition Directors' Cut: Selections from the Maine Art Museum Trail to the music of DJ Derek Jackson out in the Joan B. Burns Garden to events and activities aimed at sparking your imagination, this evening offers a relaxed social atmosphere and an entire state's worth of inspiration.
Come to the PMA and shop to your heart's content at Sweet Art—a collaborative pop-up shop by the PMA and MECA. Famed illustrator and MECA professor Scott Nash has asked his students to create an entire product line for the PMA store, and it will be available for two weeks only, through February 22!
This summer, the PMA is teaming up with the Portland Public Library’s Brown Bag Lecture Series to offer three afternoons of literature, art, and discussion. Portland Public Library’s Brown Bag Lecture Series features reading and question-and-answer sessions with authors from Maine and afar. On these select Wednesdays, start at the Library and join the author lectures, then head to the PMA for free admission and a tour of works that relate to the themes in the books. Conversation continues with tea and cookies at the PMA Café.
