Staff Positions

Under the general supervision of the Visitor Experience and PMA Store Manager, responsible for providing exceptional visitor experience with a thorough understanding of Portland Museum of Art (PMA) information, while selling admission, memberships and PMA product; promoting programs and events; and providing information and customer service support. Supports PMA goals of building audiences, developing and strengthening constituent relationships, and maximizing revenue.

This position offers high school students the opportunity to learn about the museum industry through the development of youth and teen programs. This seven-week fellowship program is designed to foster creative thinking, to build community, and to use the PMA collection for inspiration and idea building. The Homer High School Fellow will be one of seven fellows who will collaborate on projects and programs.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Protection Services and Security Supervisors and Officers, responsible for ensuring the security and safety of personnel and visitors, the museum’s collection, and the physical plant.  Performs a variety of security and security-related duties, provides information and assistance to museum visitors, and directs visitors and staff during emergency situations.

Volunteer Positions

Intern will assist the Director of Learning and Interpretation and L&I staff to help visitors make connections to the PMA collection and special exhibits through programming and in-gallery experiences.

The Learning and Interpretation department strives to encourage curiosity and wonder for all visitors to the PMA.  By offering audiences of all ages opportunities to connect with authentic works of art through programs that offer open-ended experiences, intellectual rigor and exploration of the creative process, we intend to impact the lives of PMA audiences.

The Portland Museum of Art (PMA) is searching for an Intern for the Curatorial team. The chosen candidate will assist Curatorial team in research, interpretation, care of the PMA collection as well as related programming. The intern will have the opportunity to work closely with Curatorial staff, as well as other museum departments, to advance the Portland Museum of Art’s mission.
