Since its opening in 1983, the award-winning Charles Shipman Payson Building, designed by Henry N. Cobb of I.M. Pei and Partners, has served as the face of the Portland Museum of Art.  The building has become a landmark in downtown Portland, and the galleries have showcased exhibitions that make it the principal visual arts venue in Maine.  The Big Picture celebrates the silver anniversary of the Payson building by highlighting 25 large-scale acquisitions that have come into the collection during the last quarter century.
