Although these paintings can be read as non-objective arrangements of color, line, and shape, I think of them as representations of space. The images could be called minimally representational because I hope to conjure the illusion of space by the most economical means. The illusion depends on the reading and it’s possible for a viewer to make the illusion appear and disappear at will. This mental shift encourages consciousness of the process of perception and interpretation. My intention is to create an object that can become for the viewer an empty, private space full of light and air and color.
