The images in this series are intended to be evocative of home, at once seductive and alienating. The spaces are generalized, existing somewhere between intimate space and historical site, yet without the traditional markers of either, such as people or objects.
My use of the painted blur makes reference to both soft-focus photography as well as its own varied history in painting. Here, it is a device to speak to the mediations created by memory and nostalgia.
Within this architecture of absence and loss, I seek to question the limits of home or country as a definitive or organizing principle of the more personal narratives of our lives, narratives that are, inevitably, enacted within these spaces.
